September 12, 2005 Talkin’ Cotton
The OSU Southwest Research and Extension Center will be hosting a field day on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. We will assemble at 8:30 am at the OSU Annex on the east side of Highway 283 across from the Research Station. Tours will begin promptly at 9:00 am and will continue until lunch. Lunch will be served at 12:30 pm. Two field tours will cover cotton varieties, use of harvest aids in cotton, weed control programs using Roundup Flex cotton varieties, insect control studies, mid season nitrogen recommendations, and tillage and cropping systems. Seminars will include wheat variety development, fall forage management, wild oat and ryegrass control in wheat, use of the N-Rich strip technique for nitrogen fertilization, wheat weed control update, strategies for delivery of Monensin and energy supplements to stocker cattle, integrating stocker cattle into the wheat enterprise, grain sorghum planting dates, and economics and management of canola in Southwest Oklahoma. Lunch will be catered by Food With A Flair, and will be sponsored by Bayer/Fibermax, Delta and Pine Land Co., Dow Agro, Dupont Crop Protection, Helena Chemical, Monsanto/Stoneville, Syngenta, and United Agri Products. Other research plots, including variety plots will be marked and available for further observations following lunch. CCA and CEU credits will be available. This field day allows OSU faculty and staff to share research findings with producers and industry personnel in Southwest Oklahoma and all are encouraged to attend.
